Sedro-Woolley High School | Sedro-Woolley, WA

The 10th and 11th grade AP Language classes at Sedro-Woolley High School held their "Leveling Up Seniors" event where 65 students and 30+ senior citizens gathered at the Community Center for a day of teaching and learning.
Students completed the News Literacy Project's Checkology lessons the previous school year and were taught the Digital Survival Skills lessons throughout the current school year to prepare them with them skills & concepts they needed to teach others.
Students also received direct instruction on conversation skills to scaffold their interactions with their senior citizen audience.
The teachers collaborated with the Teen Librarian from the local public library, the director of the Senior Center, and the Engagement Specialist at a local senior residential facility to plan the event and recruit senior citizens to attend and present their own station.
Funding & food for lunch was donated by Dominos, Costco, the Sedro-Woolley High School Alumni Fund, & the Rotary Club.
The event took place on a school day in early June, after the AP exam.
