Students Create Community Displays

Students bring media literacy learning into their community.

Three displays stand on a table. They each have QR codes and text to teach people about misinformation and the SIFT method.
Two students pose with their display titled "Misinformation vs. Disinformation - can you tell the difference?"

A student-created display sits on a small round table next to green arm chairs. A large white arrow superimposed on the photo points to the display.

Medical Lake High School | Medical Lake, WA

The 11th grade AP Language & Composition class created displays for a local dentist office, public library, and wellness center. Students tailored each display for the specific audience at each location.

To find interested businesses, the teacher reached out via email to seven local business that might be interested. In the future, she'll have students brainstorm a list of businesses and make potential connections with businesses run by students' families.

To prepare, students used the time after the AP exam to do a media literacy unit, then create, peer edit, and finalize their displays, which they designed with their school membership in Canva.
